Brand Yourself

In my CAP 105 class we had guest speaker Kim Bode, spoke to us about branding yourself and what makes you stand out against the crowd. She provided us with multiple questions that made us think deeper into the person that we are. What we believe in? What your passions are? What are your strengthens? What others say about you? Are you a leader or a doer?

Helping others specifically girls and women has always been a passion of mine. Ever since I was in high school the importance of self-love and being confident in the person that you are have been a huge part of my life. Growing up I was very insecure, as I think many of us were. As time went on though, I began to realize how important it was for me to love myself and be confident in who I am. I really got into looking into organizations that help young girls with this, as well as watching many self help confidence videos on YouTube. This became such a big part of my life and I began talking to many people about what I had learned from these other women. I began to talk to my peers about this to help them get to the level of confidence and love I had finally reached within myself. Tying into this, I am also very passionate about the movement of all women/ bodies are beautiful, which I hope to get a job working as part of a company who works in this campaign.

We all have our own core beliefs that mold us into the person we are and differentiate us from each other. Gaining knowledge is very important to me, I think that constantly learning new things and obtaining more knowledge is very important. Someone once told me, “learn as much as you can because your knowledge is one thing that no one can ever take away from you.” So for me constantly gaining knowledge is something that I am always trying to do. Especially when it comes to learning about these companies creating these self love campaigns. When talking with others and being an open-minded person is so important. I think it is very important to be open-minded to the ideas of others and their opinions. I think trying to understand were people come from and why they believe the things they do, can create a better understand between two people. Instead of creating arguments we can take the time to hear someone out and not judge them. Trying to understand them or even open your eyes to a different way of thinking about things.  Lastly, being an honest person shows people they can trust you and confine in you. I believe there is no point where you should lie, not only does it make you life more difficult, but makes you untrustworthy.

My top four strengths are hardworking, maintaining a positive attitude, communicating and working well with others, and reliable. When given a task I work extremely hard to make sure everything about the task is perfect and done to the best of my ability. This shows through previous job experience and how I work while participating in a group projects.Talking about how I work with others it probably makes you wonder am I the person that takes charge and be the leader or am I the doer? I think it really depends on the group of people I am working with. In some situations, i’m not fearful to take upon the role of being the leader. Although, in other cases I like to sit back and just be the person completing the task and letting someone else take charge. The role I take is completely determined by the group of people I am working with and the dominance levels of our personalities. Now back to my strengths, I pride myself in my ability to maintain a positive attitude even when placed in a rough situation. This was really brought out in my past years of working in a very fast pace restaurant where their was many stressful overwhelming situations. I realized that maintaining a positive attitude was even more important in these times. I am very good at communicating and being able to work with others. Talking to new people isn’t a hard task, I love meeting new people and learning about them. I think being able to work well with  others is a very important skill to have. Many of the things you do through life you’re required to work along side many different types of people.  Lastly, I am very reliable when given a task or an expectation I always will make sure to complete this to the best that I can. Whether it comes to working and showing up or covering peoples shifts. Or if its in the class room and i’m expected to get something done for a group or an assignment of my own.

On the contrary, what would the people that surround me think about me? Do we have the same thoughts? Well after I forced my friends to sit down and tell me all the great things about me, we arrived at the conclusion that I am a very goal driven person and work hard for the things I achieve.  I am a very giving person and always willing to help others. I always am in a good mood and positive even when situations aren’t going as well as planned.
